Sep 06 (Field Level Media) – The Colorado Rockies placed infielder/outfielder Willi Castro on the 10-day injured list Saturday due to left heel inflammation.
The move is retroactive to Wednesday.
Castro, 29, has been dealing with plantar fasciitis and hasn’t played since Monday against the Baltimore Orioles.
Castro has smacked a career-high 15 homers while batting .260 with 56 RBIs in 120 games this season.
The versatile Castro has started 51 games at second base and 36 at third. He also has 15 starts at shortstop, six at first base and two in left field.
Castro has a .247 career average with 71 homers and 284 RBIs in 825 games with the Detroit Tigers (2019-22). Minnesota Twins (2023-25), Chicago Cubs (2025) and Rockies. He was an American League All-Star in 2024 for the Twins.
Colorado selected the contract of infielder Vimael Machin from Triple-A Albuquerque in a corresponding move.
This is the first stint in the majors this season for Machin, who turns 33 on Sept. 25. He has a .204 career average with two homers and 15 RBIs in 116 games with the Athletics (2020-22) and Orioles (2025).
Colorado also outrighted outfielder Tyler Freeman to Albuquerque after he cleared waivers to open up a 40-man roster spot for Machin. Freeman, 27, batted .247 with three homers and 23 RBIs in 79 games for the Rockies this season.
