This could change how things are handled downtown.
Nashville leaders are looking into creating a “sobering center” as an alternative to bringing people to jail or the emergency room for public intoxication. If approved, a 3-year pilot program would be launched which offers a safe place for people to sober up and receive basic care, if needed.
This would reduce the strain on emergency rooms, jails and first responders. Operations would begin downtown, but services would be available throughout Davidson County.
